Dear all,

a minister of a parish in California, with whom I had, by chance, discussed the Marco case during a trip to the US in late summer, and who regularly supports prison inmates, sent me an e-mail message last night. He included Marco, his family and friends, and his legal team, into his prayers of intercession yesterday. He expressed his belief that Marco is innocent of the offence he is accused of. He sent me the excerpt from the prayer which pertains to Marco; I would like to share his words with you:

We pray for our fellow Christian Marco Weiss, a young German, imprisoned for more than seven months, in dire distress and under grave circumstances, a faithful youth whose hope for freedom was destroyed once more today.

Dear Heavenly Father: We pray that Marco, walking through this valley of darkness and despair, may realize that You walk with him always, that You let Marco rest his weary soul in Your mighty hands, that You stand by Marco in silent strength until Marco cannot avoid the awesome recognition that yes, even now, You are there, and You will let no harm come to him.

Dear Heavenly Father: We pray that Marco's family and friends will be able to afford him the support he needs and make him understand the world has not abandoned him. We pray that Marco's lawyers may be his champions until his case is finally resolved, and Marco is reunited with his family and friends. We pray that you touch Marco's judges and make them understand the gravity of their responsibility for him.

Amen.

As a lawyer, all I could say is I stipulate to that.

Dear all,

the Californian minister has sent me an update on yesterday's intercession. He again included Marco. I would like to share that prayer with you again:

We pray once more for our fellow Christian Marco Weiss. He is still incarcerated in Turkey, and he will face his judges once more tomorrow.

Dear Heavenly Father: We thank You for the support You have given to Marco in his darkest hours, through his family, his friends, and the many caring people Marco does not even know. We know that without You, Marco could not endure his imprisonment. We pray that You will help uncover his innocence so Marco may be reunited with the ones he loves very soon. We pray that You will continue to give Marco strength and shield him against all evil today, and for as many tomorrows as it takes.

Dear Heavenly Father: We pray that You will be in that courtroom tomorrow. We pray that You will make the judges see beyond any personal feelings they may have about the case and appreciate their responsibility to the truth. We pray that You will empower Marco's lawyers to battle for him as his true champions. We pray that You will reinforce the strength of Marco's family and friends, and that you will let them know they are not alone.

Amen.

Given today's news, one might argue this was part of what made a difference.
